Today marks the 82nd anniversary of the birth of Jean Widmer, a Swiss born designer. He studied at Kunstgewerbeschule in Zürich and then went on to study at the the École des Beaux Arts. His design career started and ended in France. He worked as an art director and photographer for the agency SNIP, the Galeries Lafayette department store from 1955-59, and work for the fashion magazine Jardin des Mode from 1961-1970. He then left to make his own agency, Visual Design, with his wife Nicole. His studio was in charge of the corporate identity program, sign and information system for Centre George Pompidou, Musee d Orsay, The institute du Monde Arae. He designed the first touristic sign system for French highways.
In his poster for Centre de Creation Industielle, shapes, circle, oval, color were used interestingly and effectively. They were wide enough to be developed with different variation and color within the style. The logo for Centre George Pompidou reflected the architecture of the building (see below). His simple forms of design were based on the purpose of modernism: form follows functions.
