I received a typographic suite book designed by Shirai Design studio a month ago from Ryo Kumasaki. My first impression of the book was remaining me of Jan Tschichold's work somehow. The French Folding of the cover reminded me the book of Das Alphabet Des Damianus Moyllus.
This book has been sitting on my desk since I got the book. After I did post and re-read Jan's book. My curiosity rose back to my mind. I tried to figure out what the influence of Jan's.
I always wonder why does he put the small stroke on the back. After I looked at Jan's work, my guessed that he was inspired by Penguin book covers. A much longer stroke in the middle of the cover.
The thing that I am not quite happy of the book was the length of the dusk jacket. I wished the dusk jacket is much longer but overall is a very good book. I do like the size and paper he pick. Its very pleasant book to feel, see, and hear.
