Olt Aicher was born in Ulm, Germay on May 13 1922. He was growing up from a working class family with traditional values. He was strongly against Nazi ideology. After the war end, Aicher studied sculpture at the Academy of fine Arts in 1947. Aicher along side with Inge Scholl and Max Bill close founded the Ulm School of Design, which continued the Bauhaus concept of close practical interaction with industry. One of the big achievements of Ulm was collaborated with the electronic firm Braun and airlines company, Luftansa.
In 1967, Aicher was commission for 1972 Munich Olympics visual identity. His proposal was accepted a year later. He became the director Olympics design program and his multi disciplinary team of up to 40 designers. This became my favorite visual identities. The executions are very consistent throughout the programs. Even just to see the color of posters could tell that is 1972 Munich Olympics. The symbols and pictograms are very simple and easily recognized. All the programs were multi-languages; France, English and Germany.
In 1988, He designed rotis font family. It was naming after the domicile of Rotis in the city of Leutkirh in Allgau. A wonderful typeface with four different style, serif, semiserif, samisens and san serif. Even though sometimes I have a hard time to work with Rotis, I had managed well to use them in my latest project.
