At this time, Helmut schimd had a workshop in Hongik University Seoul, Korea. Another sixteen lucky students got an opportunity to learn from the master themselves. "my typography workshop at hongik university, 'arrange, select and explore', used the cd of an oratorio by isang yup as study material.'my land, my people!' (naui dang, naui minjokijo!) has the divided korea as its theme."
The project is to arrange text to make a cd cover with only typographic solution. The text, size and typeface is decided by Helmut Schmid. There are some strict rules that need to be followed. Schmid called it " freedom by restriction." At the first many of student didn't realize how important working with the space. Even though the workshop only for 5 days, the students seem got an enormous knowledge about simplicity in typography.
