Four passionate, ambitious, and faithful designers, Simon Johnston, Mark Holt, Michael Burke and Hamish Muir self published and self financed journal of typography 86.1. To maximize the idea and time, Octavo was to limiting eight issue series to be published. The initial design concept for the eight-issue series was to use the same format throughout: A4 ( 21 x 29.7 cm), 16 pages of text (A1 [59.4 x 84.1 cm] octavo); a 4 page cover with an 8 page wrap-around trace jacket." The typeface they are using is "Unica"
The first issue was published over the spring of 1986. The main topic was a British typographer, designer and teacher, Anthohy Froshaug, written by Robin Kinross. The second article was on Richard Long's typographic works written by David Reason. Even though the magazine had been published more than a quarter century, It still look fresh, new and elegant.
