Bob Gill was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 17 1931. He went to Philadelphia Museum School of Art in 1948 to study design and drawing for 2 and half years. in 1952, he continued his studying in City College of New York. He also work as a freelancer as well. His illustrations began appearing in many well know magazines including Esquire, The Nation, Fortune and many more. in 1956, he started to teach at the School of Visual of Art focusing on "problem solving"
In 1960, Gill moved to London to work for advertising agency. On the April Fool's day in 1962, Gill, Fletcher, and Forbes established a design studio, Fletcher/Forbes/Gill and today its called Pentagram.In the same year, they also started The Designer and Art Director Association (D&AD). In 1967, he worked independently and taught at The Royal College of Art. After spending 7 years of making industrial films, teaching, designing, illustrating and writing children's book he moved back to New York in 1975 until now.
On the 11th of January 2011, I went to the ADC to see the Exhibition for ADC Hall of Famer Bob Gill since I couldn't make the book signing for Bob Gill, so far on the 12th of January. I disappointed my self brought my camera but not the memory card. I saw Bob Gill and his friend were sitting in the middle of the room. I was so excited but my brain was shut down. None of the questions that I could ask. It's nice too see Gill's work was exhibit on the wall. Gill's work full of excitement and humor. His logo's designs are strong and easy to remember. I spoke a bit with Gill at the end before I left. His youth spirit seems never disappears. I wish him happy birthday and hope that I would be able to work with him.
