George Tscherny was born in Budapest on July 12, 1924. In 1938, he escaped from Germany to Holland by crossing the border illegally. He lived and studied cabinet making in Holland before move to USA in 1941. He studied in an advertising design course at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial and a year later, he transferred to Pratt Institute to continue his studies.
His journey as a designer began in 1950 when he joined Donald dusky & Associates as a package deigned. In 1953, He joined George Nelson & Associates and he promoted to be an associate and head of graphics department. In 1951 he established his own studio.
He work very broad from logo, annual reports, books, to poster. I do like U.S.A at the TRIENNALE poster. The way he plays around with three lines represent the triennale and the color of USA and Italy mixed together gives a pleasant surprise. If you live in the New York area the Grace building and the logo still there you can visit Grace building at 1114 Avenue of the Americas
