Otto Heinrich Treumann was born on 28 March 1919 in Furth, Bavaria, Germany. He was trained at the Grafische School and Nieuwe Kunstschool in Amsterdam from 1935-1940. Since 1945, he worked in his own studio, designing for ELAL, Nederlandse Gasunie, Wolters-Noordhoff Publishers, Philips, Utrecht Industries Fair, Bijenkorf Dep. Store, Delft Technical University, Association of Netherlands architects and many others. In 1947 he received the H.N Werkmann prize for the Rayon Revue magazine which he designed from 1946 to 1959. He also designed 20 postage stamps for the Netherlands postal service.
During his 40 years of career, he designed many outstanding posters in many different approaches. I have two examples of his posters (see under), which are made up of two different color palates and style. One shows a simple design with geometric elements and very soft colors thus giving off a welcoming feeling. The other one shows very provocative pictures and contrasting colors, creating a dramatic feeling. The logos that he designed are very simple but sophisticated. With strong geometric forms, the logos look outstanding and leaves a lasting mark in the audiences' memory.
