"How Can the bird that is born for joy / Sit in a cage and sing?" - William Blake
I never thought that bird cages could be so beautiful. Even though they do look seemingly nice, but seeing the cages actually make me kind of sad. The cage designs remind me of those Chinese castles. The thought of all those servants or commoners who had to serve the King, Queen or Ministers. They had all the food and beautiful place to live but then they could never leave the castle. Ironically, this is one of my favorite typotron series. This book was designed and edited by Jost Hochuli. He presented the cages in such an elegant way.
"Unconcerned with style, whether it be right or wrong, the reader should enjoy these these fanciful creations and allow himself to be enticed into a world of daydreams and fairy tales-the journey isn't long." - Jost Hochuli
These books are still available in Typotron AG. If you are interested of Jost Hochuli's works, Jost Hochuli: Printed Matter, Mainly Books is something you would not want to miss.
If you are in the New York city area, you are highly encouraged to attend Jost's presentation on 16 of June 2011 at AIGA National Design Center.
