Albe Steiner was born on November 15, 1913 in Milan. In 1933, He began his career by exhibiting drawings of fabrics for children in group exhibition in Milan. His first lay out design project was designing brochure for the manufacture of the motorcycle 175 Atala. He claimed himself as art director, advertising artist, industrial designer and exhibition expert. He started to teach in 1949 at the Rinascente school for 5 years. While he was teaching, he worked for numerous magazine including Domus, Metron, Edilizia Moderrna.
Steiner saw design as a way of life and influencing the environment. He also involved in the political, he designed many left-wing newspapers such as l'Unità, Il Contemporaneo, Vie Nuove, Rinascita, Movimento operaio, Rivista storica del socialismo, Studi storici, Tempi moderni, Problemi del socialismo, L'Erba voglio, Mondo Operaio, Italia contemporanea. He also designed the interior and the displays for the museum to commemorate the victims deported and exterminated in Nazi camps.
His versatility and ingenuity of his design can be seen in the examples below. His design to form, content and color creates a three-dimensional feeling. Everything looks flawless even though there was not photoshop at that time. At AGI congress in Poland, he showed lovingly complied images and written text to be a tool of learning, understanding and appreciation about design. I am not sure if the book is published. Based on Albe Steiner’s archive web the book is published by Tethys on Portugal in 1974. I am not sure how accurate google translate for this. All the images, I got from the small book Albe Steiner by Anna Steiner. It’s very lovely book.
