William Golden was born on March 31, 1911 in New York, USA. He started his career as a lithographer and a photo-engraver in Los angles at the age of 17. He returned to New York in the early 1930's and worked as promotional designer for Hearst;s Journal American. In 1937, he worked for the Columbia Broadcasting System and 4 years later, he promoted to work for the printed matter of the CBS image. He also worked for the US office of War information to make posters and publications during the World War II. After the war end, He returned to work for CBS as an art director. He was responsible to work from the initial concept, planing text, layout, assigning illustrator to the final product. In 1951, He designed the famous CBS "eye" as a trademark.
