Toshihiro Katayama was born on July 17 1928 in Osaka, Japan. A self-taught artist who began his career as a freelance graphic artist after graduating from Osaka High School. Later he became co-founded Nippon Design Center. In 1963, he invited by Geigy AG to be their designer and live there for three years. In 1996 he invited by Carpenter Center for Visual Arts, Harvard University. At the Carpenter Center he has designed more than 20 exhibitions and in 1974, he designed "three Notations/Rotations" collaborated with Octavio Paz. in 1995, he had a show 30 Years Retrospective- Farewell Show at Carpenter Center, Harvard University.
I don't belive that what he has done without going to school. He also taught in the most prestigious University, Harvard. It's truly rare talent. His combination between his design knowledge and sense of artistic sense are correlated each other. In 2010, He designed a book, "Toshi Katayama's Graphic Design Class at Harvard University" published by Kyoto University of Art and Design. Definitely this one will be on my wanted list. Salute to Toshihiro Katayama.
