"Typography has one plain duty before it and that is to convey information in writing. No argument or consideration can absolve typography from this duty."
Emil Ruder was born on 20 March 1914 in Zurich, Switzerland. A founder and teacher at the Basel School of Design alongside Armin Hofmann. I always wonder what Ruder would teach to his students. Lucky enough, I got a chance to see Ruder's student work at Cooper Union Lubalin Center. They are astonishing. Unfortunately, tthere is only a note saying "Ruder's student" in the folder but nothing else. I asked one of his former student, Helmut Schmid about this sample works. He explained "one thing i would like to mention the work are all from the pre-univers period they are done by apprentices of the printing industry: typesetters, printers, bookbinders from the first to fourth year maybe including the fachklasse for printing"
Today is the 2nd anniversary of Thinking Form. Thank you so much for checking out our website and enjoy the marvelous student's work of Emil Ruder.
